Bret Carr’s Online Film “RevoLOUtion” Blog yourself a Producer’s Credit

Over the Xmas period I came across a posting at Bloggers & Podcasters, about a film by Bret Carr titled “RevoLOUtion” and I was invited to first watch it and then blog or make a podcast about it.At first when I first read about it and viewed the trailer I thought it was like a 21st century version of Rocky. Due to the fact that Bret had managed to get Bill Conti, the composer of the Oscar Winning Rocky Soundtrack to score music for the film “RevoLOUtion”, but also managed to get Burt Young who played Paulie, Rocky’s brother-in-law. I eventually went online to see the film and found it watchable, I’ve never before spent over an hour watching an entire production, whilst I’ve been e-mailed links to other documentaries and features to view online.
RevoLOUtion is centered around a boxer called “Lou” and his own fight with a childhood affliction and faces a set back that could be career ending in boxing altogether.
The film shares similar themes to Rocky such as having the self belief and the desire to overcome the odds and be determined to give life your best shot, and never give up attitude. Whilst I will not give away the plot, there is an instance in “RevoLOUtion”, where everything you ever wanted to be is taken away from you, how do you then find a meaning and purpose for what you do and define who you are?
I eventually went online to watch the film and found it watchable and never before spent an hour watching and entire production, what I learned from the experience is that pacing is important, creating rapport with the audience, but also what I would need to do in order to make an engaging project myself and more importantly how do I self promote and distribute it online.
What I personally was more interested in, was the Bret Carr set about creating his own online cinema complex, VirtualCineplex with a pay after view model as opposed to pay per view.
This type of marketing has led me to coin the term “Tipjar Economics”, just like many sites have Paypal donate buttons common with shareware or opensource, whereby users can make discretionary payments for a service or software they’ve found useful and feel like contributing to the efforts of those who committed time and effort is worth financially rewarding.
